Animal Photos, Spanish Vocabulary & Professional Reading

Chapin Databases:
  • Links to the databases are found on the "Online Resources" page under Library Services on the Chapin web site.
  • Databases may contain reference articles (like an encyclopedia)or suites of reference titles;  newspaper, magazine, or scholarly journal articles; photos, online exibits or video clips; selected web sites; teaching materials, reading levels, study guides or other learning resources.
Animal Photos
  • Grolier Online - Use Search feature to get photos and illustrations - click "Media" tab in search results.
  • Grolier's New Book of Knowledge - "Spotlight" & "NBK News Archive" also feature animal themes with photos and even video clips ("Spotlight" only).
  • Britannica Online School Edition - Search results list images and video clips under "Multimedia"; seems to have more video clips than the other encyclopedia databases.
  • World Book Reference Center - Search results list links to photos or video clips. World Book Kids even allows you to just search or browse "Pictures".
Spanish Vocabulary
  • Grolier Online > Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre  > Aula de Espanol - Has articles on themes (countries, cultural traditions, etc.); month by month calendar of holidays; vocabulary lists with pictures and pronunciation (can be printed out as worksheets); even recipes!
Professional Reading
  • Proquest - "Discovery" section includes many education magazines & book review magazines; search by keyword (Basic Search) or browse specific journal issues under "Publications" tab.
  • New York Times - Keep up with education news in NYC, available through Proquest and the New York Times web site (log-in to TimesSelect available to Chapin faculty and students through the Library's subscription).
  • JSTOR - See the other database workshop web page, JSTOR, NoodleTools, &  Images, for more on this source for scholarly journal articles.
