Library Resources for Spanish

La Casa

Reference Books (books are a better bet):
  • General encyclopedias, such as World Book often have a section on "housing" in country articles.
  • See the Database section for online Spanish language encyclopedias.
Tips for finding Books using the Online Catalog:
  • The Library's catalog (or OPAC) is available at home or at school; go to Current Students web page, click on Library | Online Catalog
  • Information on houses may be found under many different KEYWORDS: housing; houses; architecture; colonial architecture [refers to Spanish influence]; dwellings; traditional architecture.
  • Some general subject terms: Architecture; [country name]--Description and travel; Vernacular architecture
Chapin Databases:
  • Grolier Online - Includes a Spanish language encyclopedia -- no need to translate!
  • World Book Online - Includes a Spanish language encyclopedia -- Click tab at top left of screen.
  • History Resource Center (David Alger Memorial Page) - History Resource Center: Modern World includes fairly general reference and periodical articles on housing and architecture in different regions and periods in history.
