Installing GatorNet
Suggestion? print this out so that you can follow
the instructions more easily while you install!
Step one (first base): downloading from www.centrinity.com
goal is to download the installer software for your mac or pc
go to the
downloads web page
at http://www.centrinity.com/ClientDownloads/ where you will see a graphic that looks like
We also have a location where we try to keep the latest version of First Class on our own Web site (which may not yet be available on the public site) ... click
here
Step two (second base): installing
now that the installer has been downloaded to your machine, you do not need to be on the web anymore; you can quit or exit your web browser and run the installer. What is tricky, however, is that you might need to do some detective work to find where the downloaded file is hiding. Towards that end, please note that the file that you downloaded has a name that begins with FirstClass which is ONE WORD and no spaces. So we will call SECOND BASE the fact that you run the FirstClass INSTALLER on your Mac or PC. Good luck!
Step three (third base): customizing for GatorNet
the next step is to launch the application FirstClass and change what is called the SERVICE SETUP to be Local Network.fcp with a code name of GatorNet.Chapin.Edu where it says SETUP; in other words, when you launch the application FirstClass on your Mac or PC, you will get to a screen where you can login that looks like

click on SETUP that will take you to a screen that you see below. This is where we want you to change it to be Local Network.fcp with the code word of GatorNet.Chapin.Edu where it says SERVER and of course SAVE. The reason to NOT put your User Id and Password here is that it makes it frustrating for anyone else using the same machine to log in to GatorNet.

If you are truly the only one who uses GatorNet on this particular machine, then it is probably okay to put your UserID in on this screen, but still, it makes sense for security reasons to NOT put your password in on this screen!
Step four (home plate): ready to score
You are done! You are ready to log in to GatorNet. Why? Because you have installed FirstClass and have customized it for GatorNet. Remember that you need to be "connected" which involve dialing AOL or Earthlink first if that is the way you do things. If you have a DSL Modem or Cable Modem, then you are one of the lucky ones and need not dial anything. But most people have to dial up their ISP (internet service provider) first in order to be "connected". Please note that you do NOT have to have a web browser open, you just have to be "connected" and can then launch GatorNet using your special login and password that each student and faculty member at Chapin receives.
Here is the IP Number for what we call the CURRENT STUDENTS TAB: http://69.38.135.4
this is almost never needed, but if you cannot access the CURRENT STUDENTS TAB, this is your plan B!
Frustration still? Please send us a note to help@chapin.edu and describe the problem. We will try our best to provide you with help and we are sorry for your frustration!
