Smartboards and Projectors at Chapin

Overview (with pictures)

  • Projector Sheet
  • Find the plastic wall unit in the room ... it contains an instruction sheet

  • In rooms with a mounted television that looks like this you might find a REMOTE in this plastic wall unit

  • This REMOTE controls the DVD/VCR unit in your room which might be connected to the television and/or computer projector ... it looks like this

  • Find the metal box ... your gold key will open it ... here is a picture of a room ("room 39") with the metal box we are referring to ... click here

    after training, you will be given your gold key!

  • Use your gold key to open the metal box

  • Take out the cables and possibly the silver key that opens the DVD/VCR glass box cart (some rooms)

  • Take out the silver key to the DVD glass box unit (some rooms)

  • Find the EPSON remote which might look like this for Epson 811p projectors ... with the 811p model, the button marked COMP1 is crucial when using the computer while the button marked S-VIDEO should work for TV or DVD or VCR ...

  • Or find the EPSON remote which might look like this for Epson 81p projectors ... ... with the 81p model, the 4 button marked COMP1 is crucial when using the computer while the 1 button marked S-VIDEO should work for TV or DVD or VCR ... the 81p model also has a button marked SEARCH to make it even simpler!

Okay, let's try it STEP-BY-STEP for the Computer

  • STEP 1: turn on the projector
  • STEP 2: connect your laptop with the lid closed and you will probably be all set
  • STEP 3: if you are not all set, click the button on the REMOTE so that you using the COMPUTER

Okay, let's try it STEP-BY-STEP for a DVD or VCR

  • STEP 1: turn on the projector
  • STEP 2: turn on power buttons for both black and silver units ... you will know the power for the black unit is on if you see the numbers ... put in your DVD or VCR
  • STEP 3: press PLAY on the silver unit (if message says NO DISK, push CD/DVD button in the middle)
  • TROUBLE-SHOOTING: if you are not all set, click the button on the REMOTE so that you using the S-VIDEO ... make sure audio cable from computer is disconnected

now it is time to focus attention on the DVD box ... click here
the black box is a radio tuner/amplifier (TEAC or JVC)
the silver box is DVD/CD player (if the power is ON for the silver box and it is in STOP mode, that is when you will get cable TV; if it is PLAY mode it plays CD or VCR depending on that button in the middle) push POWER to see press speaker A button so that it is the SHORTER position press speaker B button so that it is the LONGER position press TAPE MONITORING so that it is on TAPE MONITORING (obvious) ... TEAC see page 8


in room 31, the video via S-VIDEO does not work ... COMP 1 did work ... we have a silver JVC and black JVC ... we discovered that on the black unit, pushing the DVD button allows the computer to play SOUND and puishing the TAPE/CDR button allows the silver unit CD/DVD unit to play sound (VCR sound did not work)

  • the unmounted projectors need the security cable and must be locked at all times!

  • Clicker is ideal for using with SmartBoards ... students create sentences with words and/or pictures by clicking and dragging (alas! the SmartBoards enters!) from a word/picture grid that can be created/customized by the teacher. What we learned:

Silver box must be in VCR mode in order to play cable television ... black box button must be in TAPE mode (room 402; tues 9/7)
