Tutoring

This is a document to help those of you who need to tutor a Chapin girl in the CP6 curriculum (Class 6)

  • regarding Typing: we expect each Class 6 girl to achieve JV level typing by the end of the Class 6 year before going into Class 7...click here for our typing page which includes info and access to our Typing Pal Web based program, our Typing Tracker sheet and our test for the JV level ... each girl on Typing Pal can create her own account by following directions ... we also have a site license for an Arcade style Typing Tutor game (Mac only) and Typing Pal CDs for girls... in order for many Class 6 girls to get to JV speed of 42 WPM, it takes repeated practice for 15-30 minutes EVERY day using an established typing program such as Typing Pal
  • regarding Inspiration: click here for a typical assignment that you can use as a model for your tutoring work ... as you might know, we give each Class 6 girl an inspiration CD at the start of the year to bring home ... because you are tutoring from a distance, you should take advantage of the 30 day full version you can download for your Mac or PC from www.inspiration.com ... learning to use the variety of features of Inspiration is an important component in the Class 6 curriculum for all Class 6 girls
  • regarding Excel: click here for a sample ... the girl you are tutoring can get many lessons from the Web site of www.atomiclearning.com ... we have an institutional membership that requires a login of c----- and password of w---- (send me an e-mail for the actual login and password)
  • regarding PowerPoint, it is important that each girl become skillful at numerous Powerpoint skills including adding graphics from the Web, proper attribution according to Chapin rules, using action buttons that link to different cards ... I can send you a sample or two that Class 6 girls did this year so that you have a model for what we are seeking
  • regarding First Class, we want each girl to become skillful at adding attachments, using both Plan A and Plan B GatorNet, sending e-mail to her portfolio, making folders in her mailbox and organizing her mailbox, voice recording via GatorNet ... we also want each girl to understand the importance of being a responsible e-mail user, not sending chain letters, not e-mailing teachers without permission and following all the AUP rules posted our AUP Web page ... click here
  • regarding HTML, click here for a sample to start with ... lessons exist for this on www.atomiclearning.com ... click here for a set of HTML Tips that our Class 6 girls access frequently during the year ... the goal here is to provide the girl you are tutoring with a solid base of HTML basics so that she will feel comfortable in Class 7
  • Regarding Computer Vocabulary: click here for a handout sheet and click here for sample questions that we would like each girl to know ... we spend two weeks in CP6 going over the content covered on this review sheet which then becomes a TEST 3/4 thru the year
