We are group 9
This year as part of our computer class we were assigned groups to build computers.
Here is a group picture of all of us:

These are the steps we are taking:

THE FIRST STEP IS PUTTING ON THE CPU: The CPU is the central processing unit

Step 2 was putting on the heat sync: The heat sync is a fan that keeps the CPU cool

Step 3 was installing the motherboard: The Mother Board is one of the most important parts of the computer
It is a flat circuit board that controls many things in the computer
We had to screw the mother board into the Computer.

Step 4 was install the floppy drive
To install the floppy disk we had to push the drive into the main frame of the computer.

Step 5 was to install the hard drive
The Hard drive holds all our documents and programs.

Step 6 was to install the CD drive
This is a device that reads and translates CD so the computer can compute and play them

Step 7 was to insert memory card
The device that stores data and allows you to access it

Step 8 was to install the power supply
The power supply supplies power so the computer can compute and process the commands

Step 9 was to connect the cables to the mother board
This was a hard job because there are sooooo many wires and soo many slots. Sooo many slots and plugs looked alike as well.

Step 10 was to attach ribbon cables to the CD and Floppy.
This was also very hard because all the connector cables looked the same.

Step 11 was to attach ribbon cables to mother board
This was a little bit easier because out things were color coded.

Step 12 was to connect the cable from the power supply to the hard drive and the floppy drive.
This was so confusing and was the first time we needed to use the flash light. All the holes were so sharp some people even cut their fingers.

Step 13 was to tuck all the cables away so no cables would touch the fan.
The Hard drive holds all our documents and programs.

Step 14 was to connect the cables from the heat sync to the motherboard
It plugs in next to the memory chip

Step 15 was to insert the Ethernet or network card.
This step had to be moved, from 16 to 15

Step 16 was to Install the sound card.
This went into the 3rd of 5 PCI slots.

Step 17 was to insert the video card
We inserted it into the black AGP slot

The kindergartners came and visited us before recess

the 3rd graders also payed us a visit:

They wanted to learn about the computers. We told them what we were doing and showed them the computer parts.

But they were not the only ones in for a treat!!!
The build was a special project for all seventh grade classes at Chapin. But for us they added a twist!!! The first day they taught us how to build the computer, bit by bit. Though      on March 11th they will play a game called reality computer build or Chapin’s next top computer builder. This game consists of us going down to Lunch and while we are gone     the teachers will break our computers and we will need to find the problem and fix it. The first team to do so will win a morning at Tech Serve learning about computers.

One of the jobs people had was the photographer, we all took turns with this job. To see our photo gallery Click Here

Tech Serve

Tech Serve is a company which fixes macs and some PCs. A woman came to talk to us about her job at Tech Serve. Her job is to fix computers when they break. Some other things she does is fix computers that were spilled on. Fix computers that have been thrown at people and fix computers that have fallen out of windows!!!! She came to us after recess and gave us a lecture about compuetrs. She also answered many of our questions.
