Social Studies

The Kindergarten social studies curriculum is divided into three broad themes:

  • All About Me
  • Family
  • Plant and Animal Families

All About Me

The first topic is familiar to the girls- themselves. Throughout the unit each student creates her own book entitled: "All About Me."
Girls explore topics such as :

  • What makes me unique?
  • Who is in my family?
  • What do I do well?
  • What do I want to learn how to do?
  • Where do I live?
  • Where is my favorite place?

By learning about each other, the girls develop a sense of community and increase their respect for one another.

    Family

In this unit the girls discuss and discover the answers to the questions:

  • What makes a family?
  • How do families support each other?
  • How are families different and how are they similar?

    Plant and Animal Families

This unit occurs in the spring. Through hands-on experiences, the girls observe plant, insect and animal families and their life cycles.
Students complete three activities in this unit:

  • Girls plant seeds and watch them grow.
  • Girls observe caterpillars develop into butterflies.
  • Girls learn about chickens. They care for the eggs in an incubator until the chicks hatch.
