Laptop Delivery System
- As we begin the 2006-2007 year, we need to remind you of the following items since we have had several accidents in the past year (not from you) regarding our Laptop Delivery System (LDS) ... we are asking each teacher to put her or his initials into each parentheses below just ONE TIME for the entire year ... thanks ... please COPY and PASTE and send back to me ... Steve
- p.s. the text below will also be on a piece of paper that you will receive when you receive laptops
- As a teacher requesting for the laptop delivery system (LDS), I understand that I must take responsibility for the laptops and must make sure my students are careful
- ( ) I will remind the girls to open the laptops with two hands so that we do not damage the hinge
- ( ) I will remind the girls not to walk anywhere with the laptops open
- ( ) I will remind the girls to be careful when piling the laptops back on the cart and obey the "rule of six" so that no more than 6 laptops are piled on top of each other
- ( ) If I end up transporting the laptops back to room 39 on a cart, I will take advantage of the bottom cabinet which has a door and makes it more secure to transport, especially on the elevator
- ( ) If no one comes at the end of my class to pick up the laptops, I will either wait or call 4985 or 4998 but I will not just leave the laptops there ... one more plan B is to use student power to transport them back to 39, e.g. 5 girls can easily get 15 laptops back to 39 in one trip and this helps us out when time is critical
- ( ) I understand that I need to make LDS requests at least the previous day by sending a note to HELP
- ( ) I understand that students too often violate the rule of C which is part of the AUP and will try to do my best to make sure this does not happen
- AUP ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY FOR THE CHAPIN SCHOOL (Including Internet Policy)
- C is for Changing Computers: I understand that I may not change anything on any computer. This means I will not change the desktop picture, sound, control panel, clock, colors, settings, fonts or rename any folders. Essentially, the rule of C means that the computer will look exactly the same before and after I work on it. I will follow the rule of C.
- When I need any assistance during class, one option is to ask a student to send an email to HELP@chapin.edu ... another is to call the Tech office at 4985 or 4998
- ( ) As of 2/15/06, we have restructure work flow in the tech dept so that in almost all cases, someone should be there at the end of the period to pick up the laptops ... however, if no one comes, please
- plan A: wait a few minutes with the laptops if that is possible
- plan B: please call 4985 or 4998
- plan C: please move them to a classroom where a teacher will be present for the next 40 minutes and alert room 39 by either a phone call or a note to HELP
- plan D: please work with several students to return them to room 39 ... if I end up transporting the laptops back to room 39 on a cart, I will take advantage of the bottom cabinet which has a door and makes it more secure to transport, especially on the elevator
I understand that I will not just leave the laptops there.
- ( ) I understand that I need to make LDS requests at least the previous day and wait for confirmation
Moving Forward via the Tech Dept 2/15/06
- "Better Early than Late" means that the designated delivery person will get to the room in question 5-10 minutes ahead of time
- Each laptop delivery will come with 5 fully charged batteries and an electric plug in an orange "emergency" bag
Laptop Guidelines for each Dept
- We need a designated "point person" for each cart or collection of laptops ... TIP (Mary Beth Burns) ... LIP (Jessamin Swearingen) ... Science (Prasad Akavoor) ... For Language (Laura deToled ) ... Library (Barbara Lutz)
- locking the cart each day so that it is 100% that it is locked by 4pm or 5pm ... deciding on how many people know the combination ... opening it in the morning
- electric cables ... be vigilant in keeping track of the # of cables and not loaning them out
- opening/closing the laptops ... procedures on our LDS sheet
- reporting anomalies via HELP, e.g. battery issues
- reminder to please do NOT shut down the laptops and please keep cables relatively neat
- OS9 implications ...Mac vs PC on the Macbooks (not applicable to everyone) ... with Windows on the MacBooks, it is important that the lids NEVER be closed!
- Here is the current form being used as part of LDS
- Reminder that the goal of the Laptop Cart Program is to phase out LDS .. this means that teachers in each department with a cart should be taking full advantage of it
- We will need some "record-keeping" from each Laptop Cart Program so that we can move forward on this from year to year ... there are many forms the record-keeping can take from paper to spreadsheet to summary
- We need each "point person" to help facilitate the pragmatic reality that we occasionally need to borrow laptops from area X to solve the program for area Y ... since our "hedgehog" at Chapin is collaboration, we hope this should not be an issue (it has not been to date)
- Added on 12/16/06 ... if any laptop is removed for repair, a piece of paper needs to be inserted in its place
- Added on 12/16/06 ... tech team people need to sign the same sheet on the top as teachers in removing laptops
