21 Tech Questions for Chapin Buddies

Any member of the tech dept can provide answers and clarity. Some answers are on our AUP. Some answers are in Section 13 of the binder while others are in the etiquette Web page.

  1. How many color printers are available? Where are they? How does the cost of a page printed on a Chapin color printer vary with that of a black/white page printed on a Chapin laser printer?
  2. How do you request laptops to be delivered to your classroom? What are the guidelines?
  3. Who do you send e-mail to if you have tech questions or need tech help? Who do you send e-mail to if you need maintenance help in your room or office?
  4. How can you recognize an institutional mailing list? How can you see who is on that mailing list? How do you create your own personal mailing list? Which students are allowed to send e-mail to an institutional maling list?
  5. Is it possible for you as a faculty member to borrow a laptop overnight? If so, how? Is it possible for you as a faculty member to borrow a digital camera or video camera overnight? If so, how? Is it possible for your students to pick up several laptops to bring to their class? If so, what is the procedure?
  6. Why is it important to backup important documents? What are some of the Chapin strategies available for backups?
  7. What is the name of the First Class conference that is used for personal e-mail that you wish to send to the entire FacStaff? Where on First Class will you find the electronic version of the entire binder?
  8. Are Middle School girls allowed to bring their laptops to school? If so, what are the guidelines? Are Upper School girls allowed to bring their laptops to school? If so, what are the guidelines?
  9. Why is it preferable to drag an attachment to your desktop instead of double clicking on it if you are planning to work on the file?
  10. How do you tell others on First Class that you are on vacation for 2 weeks and you will check your e-mail when you return?
  11. What is the generic password for FacStaff members associated with the login of FacStaff?
  12. What is the advantage of a PDF document? How do you make a PDF document?
  13. What is the navigational pathway from www.chapin.edu that takes to you to our Web based curriculum mapping?
  14. What is the navigational pathway from www.chapin.edu that takes to you to be able to install First Class on your home Mac or PC? Why would someone use First Class Plan B instead of Plan A?
  15. How do you get a key to the metal boxes that contain the cables for hooking up to the projectors?
  16. How do you arrange for 1 or more sessions of tech help with our computer faculty trainer, Lynne Schalman?
  17. What Chapin software are you legally allowed to put onto your personal owned computers? What is the procedure? What Chapin software is part of the standard Faculty "suite of software"?
  18. Why is it important to put the 3 letter SUFFIX at the end of a file? What is the 3 letter SUFFIX for Microsoft Word? Powerpoint? Excel?
  19. Does First Class allow for instant messaging? Who else besides FacStaff has the priivilege of instant messaging on First Class?
  20. Is it okay to leave a laptop in your office or anywhere in the Chapin building with out a security cable?
  21. What is the recommended procedure when you leave a projector room in terms of the projector and the cables?
