Sent to Class 7 Parents via e-mail on March 7th

Dear Chapin Class 7 Parents,

We are excited about March 13th and 14th next week when your daughters will be building computers from scratch. As you may know, they will be posting Web updates every hour or so that you will be able to check from your home or office computers. There will be a link from the main http://www.chapin.edu Web page with information. In addition, you will be able to send e-mails to build@chapin.edu if there are comments you'd like to share over those two days as you "watch the project" unfold over the Web.

If you would like to visit in person, we ask that you do so only Tuesday morning between eleven o'clock and one o'clock, between their recess and lunch period. Your daughters have been working very hard to prepare for this project, and we know that they will appreciate your comments.

Sincerely,
Shana Negin

Selective comments will begin to appear here from Chapin parents, teachers, students and others who write to build@chapin.edu ... who is going to be the first to write?

We also had the U.S.A. vs. Korea game on the computer (MS. Allen's computer ) in our classroom today. (We can only check at break, lunch, etc.) It is also on television, but so convenient to be able to listen or watch right on your computer. (We cannot see it on television live because the games are on in the morning and afternoon here and we are at school. We are 14 hours ahead of E.S.T.)

Sayonara,Ginny Allen and her sixth grade class

P.S. GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!! (That's Ms. Allen. About half the kids root for the Yankees (mainly because of Matusi) and half for the Red Sox)

  • From someone with last name of Negin Tuesday at 8:54AM ... To the prospective engineers and software gurus at Chapin. Your computer build project is very impressive. I never thought about the analogy between the motherboard and a city, but its an astute comment. (It could probably go at least one level deeper than simply visual appearance; e.g., analogues for buildings, streets, utilities, traffic control, parks...). Congratulations on undertaking a project that puts you in the front of today's technology. I would note that engineering, technology, and science are completely open to women, so if you are so inclined, I encourage you to think about them as a career path. Good Luck. C. A. Negin
  • From a teacher in California at 11:12AM Tuesday ... "Well - I am not an international personality. But I did take a look from California - looks like fun!"
  • From a Class 7 parent at 11:52AM Tuesday ... "Can they do it...will it work???? Only 3 hours  and fifteen min. left. Good luck class 7, now we know who to call for tech support. "
  • From a mom of one of our computer teachers at 4:19PM: "I was very impressed by the entire project. This experience seems to take the mystery out of computers.  The students have a high level of confidence and competence.  Congratulations to all!  I am really impressed by your teacher Ms. Negin."
    Regards,
    Super Negin's Mom
  • From the grandmother of a Chapin Class 7 girl at 1:15 on Wednesday 3/15: "Just finished reviewing the project. For someone who first experienced Computers back in the 'card sort' days and main frames that took up a whole room (1950's), it is amazing to see the progress that has been made in the Computer world. Fun to see my granddaughter working on such a wonderful project. What will this world be like in another 50 years!"
  • From a Class 6 girl (QJH) on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 10:58 AM: "I visited all 11 Web sites of the class seven girls who are building computer and they rocked!!!! They were all so cool with the backgrounds and the pictures. I really liked group 3 for their awesome creativeness and use of Web skills (like the pink flamingo. and group 6 with the flying air plane that spells WELCOME. All the other Web pages were also cool and very interesting. I enjoyed all the pictures and videos on the Web. I cant wait to build a computer in Class 7 and I hope I learn all the skils they learned and more!!!"
  • From a teacher in Texas, Dennis Shepler, on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 10:55 AM: "Howdy Yall, Soon after riding my horse to school and unsaddlin' her to cool her down, I saddled up my compter and checked out my email. They steered me to your school Web site. Your Web pages are mighty fine and I was especially impressed with your animations. I reckin I'll have to rustle some of that there code for my web page. Anyway, the very best to yall from the Lone Star Republic." Ol' Shep in Houston, TX
