Here are the SPECS

  • Each team will be asked to find 10 interesting facts about the vocabulary word. The teams will be made up of 1 or 2 Chapin sixth graders (out of 59) matched with the 37 students in Lab Schools in Chicago. Each fact must be accompanied by the URL source.
  • Mrs. Gray, Ms. Paige and Mr. Bergen have assigned you the ONE vocabulary word that represents something relatively new and interesting in the world of technology especially relevant in the 21st century that you are growing up in.
  • The project will begin the week of May 8th and will go for 2 weeks.
  • All e-mail will be coordinated through Mrs. Gray and Mr. Bergen ... every e-mail needs to use this notation in the SUBJECT "to John Doe from Mary Jones and Bill Smith" ... we will also find ways to communicate via audio!
  • All e-mail from Chicago should be sent to NYC@CHAPIN.EDU
  • All e-mail from New York should be sent on First Class to the mailing list called Chicago (ML*) ... Chapin students can use this mailing list because of the *
  • The goal is to create 10 interesting facts about the specified vocabulary word, with each fact having a LINK to the URL of where the research came from.
  • Although the Web pages will be made by the Chapin students, the content and language will be created collaboratively by each team of 2 or 3 students
  • Here are some other words that can be substituted but only if approved by the teachers:Darknet, DRM, folksonomy, GPS, IRC, lifehack, mashup, meme, mindshare, nanotechnology, newsgroups, Opera, peer to peer, RIAA & MPAA, social bookmarks, tags, viral marketing and Web 2.0.
  • The name of the Web page is LAB.html ... if there are two Chapin girls on a team, only one makes the Web page, but the other should link to the main page ... the Web page gets made from scratch with no template ... please include the URL in your first e-mail and each e-mail, e.g. http://gatornet.chapin.edu/~JAD/LAB.html
