iMovie Projects

Class 6 Biology Project: Students created an iMovie of one of the five senses.
Steps in the project:

  • Students were divided into 5 groups of 3
  • Each group was assigned a sense (touch, taste, sight, hearing, smell)
  • One student is the fact researcher, one the image finder, one the iMovie producer
  • Students submit graphics and text for approval
  • Students use 3 days of class time to construct and then display the project.

Class 6 English Poetry Project: Students created an iMovie to illustrate a poem
Steps in the project:

  • Students were shown iMovie projects about poetry- We Didn't Start the Fire
  • Students watched Poetry videos from Robert Pinsky's Favorite Poem Project
  • Students received detailed description of project including instructions on choosing a poem, brainstorming, selecting images.
  • In class, students arranged their images. One day was set aside as "Camera Day" so students could take personalized digital images to include.
  • Students recorded voice over narrations of the poem, arranged special audio effects, and narrated their reason for choosing the poem.

AP Latin: Translate and Illustrate an ode
Steps in the project:

  • Students were given a poem to translate
  • Students used computer lab to work on iMovie
  • Students presented in class
  • Here is an example.

Teacher Created iMovies:

  • Latin teacher recorded 8th graders making Latin come alive in a skit.
  • French teacher recorded Three Little Bears skit.
  • English teacher recorded highlights of the English curriculum throughout the year.
  • Class supervisor compiled highlights of the students' year.
  • Lower School teacher recorded class plays, colonial fashion show, students reading.

Inspiration Projects

  • French and Spanish: create map of a town complete with images from the web, animated gifs and locations named in either French or Spanish
  • American History: Review and Study Guide of Colonial History Timeline
  • History Pre-Reading and Note Taking Guide
  • Science Class Note Taking
  • French Class: Smartboard and Inspiration to study verb tenses, and student created Inspiration verb guides
  • History: structured format for paragraph,  3 paragraph essay, and comparison essay
  • English: create Anne Frank's annex from the perspective of one of the residents

Student PowerPoint Assignments:

Spanish: Create a PowerPoint based on Don Quixote

Steps in the project:

  • Students choose several quotations from Don Quixote and apply them to their own lives
  • Students are given detailed instructions as to how many slides, how many quotations, and how many images
  • Students write all text in Word to be corrected and revised
  • Students put together a presentation with their own storyline, quotations from the novels, images from the web, and images from their own travels.

History: Explore an Artist

Steps in the project:

  • Students explore an artist on a web-based tour.
  • Students are divided into groups to explore an artist.
  • Web site offers detailed instructions.

History: Explore and explorer

Steps in the project:

  • Students first write an essay using Inspiration to construct outline.
  • Students are given detailed instructions for their presentation.

Science: Webquest Project

Steps in the project:

  • Students are divided into groups, each with a unique role, to explore the circulatory system.
  • Students work together to create a presentation in class.
  • Day three- students present slideshows.

MS Word Projects

Upper School English: Essay Revising

  • Using the track changes and insert comments feature, teacher could evaluate and correct essays.
  • Using color coding for different grammatical and stylistical errors, the teacher could streamline the editing process.

English Class Hyperpoem

  • Students were all assigned the same poem.
  • Students were given instructions on the poetic terms to highlight, the use of the comment feature to add analysis, and the need to add a meaningful graphic.
  • Students worked on the projects individually for homework.
