US Robotics 2006-2007
Chapin: Dr. Akavoor, Ms. Sanfilippo and Mr. Bell
Brearley: Mr. Hall, Ms. Marcus and
Ms. Hallissy Ayala
... mentor Hans Jun (hjj@hansjj.com)
- Sept 2006: organization began with Dr. Akavoor and Ms. Sanfilippo and 3 faculty members at Brearley
- The initials of the girls involved at Chapin are: ACB in Class 9 ... MO, RAC, JYZ, KES, YDC, KES in Class 11
- Friday 10/20/2006: We finished assembling the basic chassis for the robot
- Thursday 10/26/2006: We met with 5 girls at Brearley. The builders had some difficulty getting one of the Robots to turn on. With the aid of a Brearley science teacher not involved in the program, they were able to provide power for the machine. Meanwhile Mr. Hotaling taught one of the CAD students how to use VectorWorks.
- Friday 10/27/2006: We met very briefly with 5 girls to continue working on the VEX kit robot. We have finished assembling the chassis and are at the point of adding more complex equipment to the robot.
The girls couldn't stay long this week so there wasn't much construction that took place but we did get a chance to discuss the concept of center of gravity and how it should be taken into consideration when building the robot.
- Tuesday 10/31/06: We tested the camera on the robot
- Thursday 11/2/06: We held a meeting of the Budget committee. We discussed possible sponsors and possible fund raising activities. We were excited to learn that Best Buy has pledged over $1000 to help our team.
In addition we viewed a preliminary team t-shirt design
- Tuesday 11/7/06: Today was Upper School parents day at both Brearley and Chapin. We took this day as an opportunity to have a meeting for parents to allow them to better understand what their daughters are getting involved in and how they can help out. Several Brearley parents were in attendance.
In addition we discussed the design and particularly the color of what will be the Brearley Chapin robotics team t-shirt.
- Friday 11/10/06: Today we finished constructing our VEX robot. We are now thinking about devising new and interesting challenges for our robot. Our goal in this it to gain a greater understanding of what we need to do with the larger robot by working with the smaller one.
Below are Photographs taken of our VEX Robot and students:
After completing the robot, we thought we'd show it off by showing it to Dr. Hayot.
