For Those of You Doing Tech Presentations at Chapin

  • Your Internet connectivity will not work within the building until we enter your MAC address into our security database
  • Because of issues that involve variations of PowerPoint and other software, it is ALWAYS preferred that you bring your own laptop since you have control over all installs, CD drives, administrative rights, system settings
  • We will ALWAYS try to get you setup with one of our Mac or PC laptops on a big screen, but an essential skill for every tech presentation has to be "going to plan B" if something is not working
  • Your contact person at Chapin should be filling out an AV Request Form

Here are some links to check out before coming

Here are some guidelines

  • Because schedules change, we cannot really commit to actual smartboard usage by teachers a week or two in advance; if you are coming to see smartboards in action, the best we can do is e-mail exchange or phone exchange the day before.
  • We only allow 3 visitors at a time to minimize disruptions within our classes.
  • We try to keep our visits to a maximum of 2 hours.
  • We try to not have more than 2 visits per month for scheduling reasons.
  • Please understand that certain times of the year are better than others.
  • To avoid confusion, we insist on e-mail and/or phone exchange the night before the visit.
  • We would appreciate a few sentences with introductions and positions that we can then share with colleagues

Info from Shana Negin regarding Upper School Tech

  • a)tablet scribes in Class 8 Class 8 has a Scribe program using the tablet pcs. Each day M-Th, four students pickup one of the PC laptops in the morning, use it during the day to take notes, and then return it at 3 o'clock. Notes are taken at the discretion of the teacher, and posted when the day is done for other Chapin people to see.
  • b)iPods in Class 8 Class 8 girls have begin to use iPods in their computer class, and will shortly be able to use them in their foreign language classes as well. Students currently have the ability to record, download, and upload sounds.
  • c)Possiblity of tech integration in CP8 and CP9 Some projects already lined up in some fashion: *CP9 integrated projects in class 9 and 10 re Mara Taylor My Favorite Poem, Hypertext *Newsletter with Martine C-E and Leone Seltzer, class 8
  • d) Computer Programming with Java This course is an introduction to computer programming. Topics covered include but are not limited to problem solving methods, algorithms, program design, input/output, variables, objects, control structures, arrays, strings, and programming language syntax. The language used for the course is Java. In addition, students have been using the PC laptops for notes. They are saved on the computers upstairs if we at any time would like to see some of their notes.
  • e) CP9 CP9 is the final year of required coursework in the computer department. The curriculum changes every year, to adapt to the skill of the current students. Focus is around supporting the technological needs of their other courses, as well as multimedia projects (e.g. building Web sites) and introduction to programming with Jeroo.
  • f) laptop delivery system Teachers can call or send e-Mail to 'help' and get a class set of laptops delivered to their classrooms. A day's notice is preferred, but we do our best to accomidate any request. This system has been in place for two years, and it has been a way for teachers who have occasional projects involvoing computers to get access to equipment without the hassle of having to reserve the computer lab. Examples of use are : Writing essays in Class, Looking at a particular web Site, Geometer's Sketchpad, iMovie projects.
